{"id":455,"date":"2011-10-29T17:37:53","date_gmt":"2011-10-29T21:37:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/?p=455"},"modified":"2011-10-29T17:46:45","modified_gmt":"2011-10-29T21:46:45","slug":"wafels-dinges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/?p=455","title":{"rendered":"Wafels &#038; Dinges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Wafel.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-456\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" title=\"Wafel\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Wafel-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Wafel-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Wafel-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Wafel.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>I can&#8217;t believe this my second sweet post in two weeks, but this is another great sweet treat.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d heard of the waffle truck (aka <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wafelsanddinges.com\/\">Wafels &amp; Dinges<\/a>), even seen it parked at the farmers market, but never thought about stopping in. \u00c2\u00a0But it was a Tuesday afternoon, I had\u00c2\u00a0writers&#8217;\u00c2\u00a0block, and I was staring down a half written corporate policy. \u00c2\u00a0When a coworker\u00c2\u00a0told me there were bacon waffles to be had I knew I had to check the place out.<\/p>\n<p>On the walk over to the cart, I got a rundown on the menu. \u00c2\u00a0The bacon waffle is a relatively new addition and has bacon actually integrated into it. \u00c2\u00a0The\u00c2\u00a0deluxe waffle is called Da Throwdown and it packs spekuloos (a paste that is some kind of cross between a cookie and caramel) and whipped cream. \u00c2\u00a0It was added to the menu after the\u00c2\u00a0Wafels &amp; Dinges beat\u00c2\u00a0celebrity chef, and asshole, \u00c2\u00a0Bobby Flay on his show, the <a href=\"http:\/\/midtownlunch.com\/2010\/01\/21\/wafels-waffles-dinges-on-throwdown-with-bobby-flay-video-food-network\/\">Throwdown<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0You can choose to top your waffle with ice cream and\/or scale everything back to an afternoon snack sized mini-waffle. \u00c2\u00a0The ice cream flavors rotate, and on this trip there was beer &amp; honey (yeah, that&#8217;s right, beer ice cream!) and some kind of strawberry swirl \u00c2\u00a0something that I stopped remembering after I heard about beer ice cream.<\/p>\n<p>I was glad the plan involved sharing. \u00c2\u00a0I ordered Da Throwdown and my co-worker got the bacon waffle with the beer &amp; honey ice cream.<\/p>\n<p>I had never had, or ever heard of,\u00c2\u00a0spekuloos. \u00c2\u00a0But it was a great waffle topping that seemed to add both sweet and savory flavors. \u00c2\u00a0And I normally don&#8217;t much care for whipped cream, it&#8217;s usually just some flavorless (but high caloric) foam that you have to get past to find whatever is underneath. \u00c2\u00a0This whipped cream was different. \u00c2\u00a0It was thick and rich. \u00c2\u00a0The waffle itself walked a perfect line between substantial and heavy. \u00c2\u00a0I don&#8217;t know what Bobby Flay made, but this concoction would be hard to beat.<\/p>\n<p>And there was the bacon waffle which followed the universal law that bacon makes everything better. The beer ice creams was also a winner. \u00c2\u00a0The flavor was mild and overpowered when eaten with the bacon waffle. \u00c2\u00a0On it&#8217;s own, it \u00c2\u00a0had a light yeast flavor that that reminded me of a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saison\">saison<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0In all, the ice cream was fantastic on it&#8217;s own, but not much when paired with the waffle.<\/p>\n<p>As we were waiting for our orders, something else on the menu caught my attention: a BBQ pulled pork waffle. \u00c2\u00a0Rumor is that the truck is around the office every Tuesday. \u00c2\u00a0I think I know what&#8217;s going to be on the lunch menu.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I can&#8217;t believe this my second sweet post in two weeks, but this is another great sweet treat.
