{"id":587,"date":"2012-04-01T18:46:40","date_gmt":"2012-04-01T22:46:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/?p=587"},"modified":"2012-04-01T19:43:54","modified_gmt":"2012-04-01T23:43:54","slug":"down-under-bakery-dub-pies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/?p=587","title":{"rendered":"Down Under Bakery (DUB) Pies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I know what you&#8217;re thinking: how can I trust a place run by Australians? \u00c2\u00a0Aren&#8217;t they are a bunch of untrustworthy criminals? \u00c2\u00a0Well, don&#8217;t worry, DUB&#8217;s has the mellowing influence of New Zealanders to help you feel safe walking through their doors. \u00c2\u00a0Try this Park Slope gem.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Flight of the Conchords - Racism\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zs_rXxi0zhM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A few months ago, while sitting at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/the-double-windsor-brooklyn\">Double Windsor<\/a>, I looked across the street and saw DUB Pies. \u00c2\u00a0A little internet research revealed that DUB&#8217;s puts out the savory, rather than sweet variety, of baked treats. \u00c2\u00a0As a Minnesota boy, I&#8217;ve never really had a savory pie&#8211;at least aside from the chicken pot variety.<\/p>\n<p>After several visits, I can now safely say that those folks down under know what&#8217;s going on when it comes to making a pie that&#8217;s a meal rather than a desert and\u00c2\u00a0DUB&#8217;s has found its way into my weekend breakfast\/brunch rotation.<\/p>\n<p>The prices at DUB&#8217;s seem a bit steep at first at around $6 or $7 for personal sized pie (or $3 for a mini pie). \u00c2\u00a0But a pie and coffee hits the wallet more lightly than a more traditional sit-down brunch and it leaves you plenty full for the day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/DUB-Pie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-593\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" title=\"DUB Pie\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/DUB-Pie-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/DUB-Pie-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/DUB-Pie-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/DUB-Pie.jpg 1944w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>I&#8217;m a particular fan of the Steak Pie&#8211;filled with chucks of meat and a fantastic onion gravy&#8211;or the Mince Pie (ground beef). \u00c2\u00a0Like bacon, gravy is always a winner. \u00c2\u00a0These guys are filling, but small enough to avoid the food coma.<\/p>\n<p>By weekend midday, the selection of pies can be touch and go. \u00c2\u00a0As a result, I&#8217;ve tried some far less traditional fillings, such as chili or Thai chicken. \u00c2\u00a0(I loved the chili.
