Save\u00c3\u00a9 Sea - Pinot Noir 2009<\/p><\/div>\n

Yesterday, Nick texted me to let me know that he was planning on \u00c2\u00a0cooking a great dinner (pork chops\u00c2\u00a0with a peach salsa, mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob). \u00c2\u00a0I had one job, grab a bottle of wine.<\/p>\n

I went to the store fully intending to ask someone for help. \u00c2\u00a0(Wine pairing is not my strong suit.) \u00c2\u00a0But some where on the way I got\u00c2\u00a0fixated\u00c2\u00a0on the idea of a pinot noir. \u00c2\u00a0And while in the store this particular wine called out to me. \u00c2\u00a0Maybe it was the\u00c2\u00a0palm tree on the bottle, creating images of a Hawaiian lohou, making think it could go well with pork and peach. \u00c2\u00a0Or maybe it was that this boozy grape juice hails from New Zealand and I don’t think that I’ve had a pinot from New Zealand before.<\/p>\n

So how was the wine?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I really liked it. \u00c2\u00a0The color was a rusty red. \u00c2\u00a0It had a very fruit forward nose (in other words it smelled like fruit). \u00c2\u00a0I think that Nick’s girlfriend, Becca, perfectly summed up the flavor: fruit basket. \u00c2\u00a0I got some plum and\u00c2\u00a0pineapple. \u00c2\u00a0But it wasn’t overly sweet–the essence of fruit with out all the sweetness. \u00c2\u00a0The fruit flavors faded a lot after a few bites of buttery corn and mashed potatoes but the wine remained very enjoyable. \u00c2\u00a0All-in-all: it was good with dinner and it would be nice to have a glass on it’s own.<\/p>\n
