{"id":889,"date":"2013-04-28T00:15:25","date_gmt":"2013-04-28T04:15:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/?p=889"},"modified":"2013-04-28T10:36:23","modified_gmt":"2013-04-28T14:36:23","slug":"pili-pili","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/?p=889","title":{"rendered":"Pili Pili"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-890 alignleft\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" alt=\"Hot Sauce Cookbook\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Hot-Sauce-Cookbook-229x300.jpeg\" width=\"229\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Hot-Sauce-Cookbook-229x300.jpeg 229w, https:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Hot-Sauce-Cookbook.jpeg 459w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 229px) 100vw, 229px\" \/>One of my latest cookbook purchases is an ode to hot sauce making: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Hot-Sauce-Techniques-Signature-Includes\/dp\/160342816X\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1367159465&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=hot+sauce%21+book\">Hot Sauce!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>My attention first fell to the recipe for pili pili. \u00c2\u00a0Literally meaning &#8220;pepper&#8221; in Swahili, pili pili is an African hot sauce that deals out a <a title=\"This is Why I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m Hot!\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/?p=615\">solid burn<\/a> without forgoing flavor. \u00c2\u00a0 Unfortunately, this stuff is impossible to find <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5PXSK3iDeAI\">here in the States<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0Luckily, Fayaz has a few hook-ups in his native land of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tanzania\">Tanzania <\/a>to supply himself and a few friends.<\/p>\n<p>In making the recipe, I used five\u00c2\u00a0jalape\u00c3\u00b1os and one habanero. \u00c2\u00a0The fresh flavor of the hot sauce was fantastic blend of sweet and spice. \u00c2\u00a0I can see this stuff being great with everything. \u00c2\u00a0On mac &amp; cheese, burgers, pizza&#8230; \u00c2\u00a0Yum.\u00c2\u00a0Though, on the next go, I may need to up the habaneros to give a little more heat.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Ingredients:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">2 cup of loosely packed fresh\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">jalape\u00c3\u00b1os or habaneros (about 6 or either), stemmed<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Pili-Pili.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-892 alignright\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" alt=\"Pili Pili\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Pili-Pili-300x300.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Pili-Pili-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Pili-Pili-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.eatcooklive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Pili-Pili.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">1 small yellow onion, peeled and quartered<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">1\/4 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">1\/4 cup of olive oil<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">1 teaspoon chopped garlic<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">1 teaspoon ground ginger<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">1 teaspoon salt<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Directions:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Add all of the ingredients to a food processor or blender and\u00c2\u00a0pur\u00c3\u00a9e. \u00c2\u00a0Transfer the mixture to a skillet and cook over medium heat for a few minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Let cool a bit, then pour into glass bottles and seal. \u00c2\u00a0Refrigerated, the sauce will keep for 2 weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of my latest cookbook purchases is an ode to hot sauce making: Hot Sauce!
